Dental Implants

Dental Implants - Gilbert, AZNothing has revolutionized dentistry like dental implants.  In the past your choice for replacing a missing tooth was a bridge or a partial denture.  Now we can replace one or many missing teeth and give you the look and feel of real teeth again.  Loose partial or full dentures can also be secured with dental implants.

A dental implant is a titanium "screw" that is placed in your jaw bone acting as a replacement root for your new tooth.  Implants are specially made so that your bone attach's to it as if it was part of you body.

Does it hurt to place it?
While there may be some tenderness at the site of surgery, many people find that they are up and around the day of the surgery with little discomfort.

What are the steps involved to get an implant?
First step is to visit Dr. Saydyk at Stoneridge Dental for a comprehensive dental evaluation and treatment planning consultation.  Dr. Saydyk serves as your quarterback for all of your dental treatment.  At this appointment the implant will be planned as well as the restoration of any additional teeth in your If you are a candidate for implants a referral will be made to an oral surgeon or periodontist for placement.  You will meet with the doctor placing the implant so they can discuss any surgical requirements and go over the cost of the implant.

Once the implant is placed it will take 4-6 months to heal, then Dr. Saydyk will take an impression and have the crown fabricated and placed.

Dental ImplantsWhat about an immediate implant?
It is true that some implants can be placed and immediately restored, however in many cases it is better to let the implant heal for 4-6 months prior to placing any load on the tooth.  If an implant fails to heal it is very difficult to remove and requires additional invasive procedures to repair the site and place another implant.  This is avoided by first waiting for the implant to heal prior to placing the crown.

How long do implants last?
If an implant is properly placed, restored and maintained it's life span is as long as yours.  Since it is made of metal and ceramic it cannot get a cavity, it is very strong and resistant to fracture.
